A few weeks ago, Carol and I ate at one of our local favorite places, the Kensington Circus Pub at 389 Colusa Avenue – where a stroll around a block takes you through Berkeley, Albany, Kensington, El Cerrito and across the Alameda/Contra Costa Border.
Yelp Review of the Kensington Circus Pub
We immediately noticed how empty it was – and asked the owner about it, and suggested some ideas for building business.
A week later a fellow Realtor posted a Facebook comment saying pretty much the same thing.
And that gave me an idea … let’s support local restaurants (and other places) which make our community so special.
I suggested once-a-week Realtors and friends meet for dinner a local favorite restaurant. We could easily work our way all around Berkeley, Albany, Kensington, El Cerrito and Oakland.
Our very first place is Kensington Circus Pub – this Thursday 24 Sep at 6:00 pm. I hope you can join us. It’s a friendly place where parents take kids, kids take grandparents, and children play under the dart board (really!) Ask about the history, and you’ll learn that the beautiful wood art-nouveau doors were from the days when it was a Narsai’s specialty food store.
If you like this idea, please pass it on. I sent it to my Twitter and Facebook accounts, which seem good ways to get the word out.
Email serkes@berkeleyhomes.com if you’ll be joining us.
I picked Thursday because it’s after our Berkeley Real Estate Broker’s Tour, will give us a chance to take a break and say hello to friends, perhaps even do some business.
I figure we have to eat, and choosing a pleasant neighborhood place (ranging from inexpensive on up) helps local businesses.
And when you pay for dinner, consider paying in cash rather than credit cards. It costs the same, and the restaurant nets more money because they won’t have to pay credit card fees.
